Our Problem Is Not God

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.  But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
Ephesians 2:1–5
[Jesus Christ] gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
Titus 2:14
[Beginning at 17:11] Our modern gospel narratives have been talking about how to fix the God problem we have instead of how to fix the man problem we have... We've created a way of thinking about the problem that we have and the remedy that has everything to do with what God sees and does... instead of how do we fix me...  Our problem is not God. Getting God to forgive me is not the hard thing... What He says about Himself repeatedly is that He's quick to forgive.  He's eager to set us right.  He's waiting to be in relationship with us.  He's not far off.  He wants His creation redeemed.  He wants us to be where He made us.  That's all of the desire of the Divine is to have us where He wanted us to be in the first place.  So it's just a knock on the door away and God is on the other side waiting, waiting.  The problem is not getting God either interested or willing to forgive.
